From Toulon - The best place to do nothing.

Since it will be our last port, we are looking for the best place to do nothing on our Toulon day. We don't want a big long trek, or a whirlwind sightseeing trip.... really, what I picture my day as... is a complete day of watering through shops, markets, eating, drinking and seeing some beautiful scenery. If there are any wine tours, culinary tours or just plain good places to people watch and take in the feel of the South of France... where should I go? What should I do? I dont want to spend a world of time off the ship, maybe about 4 hours or something... because I'm sure we'll be tired by that time.

I've considered Aix and Avignon... between the two, what is the best option? I would prefer to travel by rail or taxi, something inexpensive.
