Dream Description changed

Recommended Posts

Just been looking around Thomson web site and noticed that the description of the Dream has changed it now says the following :

Thomson Dream is our biggest ship yet. In fact, it’s 30% more spacious than most other ships in its class. And not only does it give you more room, it’s more stylishtoo. Take the cabins, for example. As well as being the biggest in the fleet, they come with interior-designed good looks – think neutral colours accented by bold feature walls. In the shared spaces, meanwhile, it’s got all the hallmarks of a classic Thomson ship. That means large bars made for mingling and cosy corners perfect for a nightcap. Plus, there are fourrestaurants offering everything from 24-hour buffets to tasty a la carte dishes. As for extras, you’ll find two swimming pools, including one which has a retractable roof. Last but not least is the theatre. Spread over two storeys, with a mix of chairs, booths and seats for two, it’s like a little slice of the West End at sea.

Might be because so many compalints about being a luxury ship ?

It was never going to really be a luxurious ship in its own right. Maybe better that other Thomson ships yes, but compared to other cruise companies no.

When it belonged to the company that had it before, it was never a top of the range ship, so it was certainly not going to be one in the few months that it became Thomson Dream.

Thomson has always been a middle of the range cruise company, for those who cannot, or will not pay Royal C or Celebrity etc prices.

I had my reservations early in the year when we were in Dubai, and read about this ship hitting the dock wall/pier in Egypt. (and killing a couple of the crew)

If people want luxury cruising then don't look at Thomson, look at the pricier cruise lines.

If you want a cruise aimed at the British market, with prices to go with it, now that Ocean Village is no more, then you can't do better than Thomson

With Thomsons its not just about British or price, more about the staff, size of ship, atmosphere, friendlines, and many more things that are unique to the Thomson line.

Ocean Village was OK if you like go as you please self service, and I did enjoy my last 21 day cruise with the line but, for me it is not in the same class as Thomson ships.

Just my view and I know every one looks at it throught different eyes.

I suggest Thomsons change that description as the 30% more space statement is not true. There are LOTS of ships with a better passenger space ratio than Dream. They are right about the public rooms which are good but the bars statement leaves me confused. I was speaking with the cruise director a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that IMO, the ships bars lacked focus. I was in the main bar but the entertainment was what I would expect in Horizons on Spirit or Celebration. Next to the Casino the Delo bar was too small and then you had the redundant disco bar.

I wonder if Thomsons knew that they were chartering a ship with so many problems. It will take much more than the £4 million earmarked for the autumn refit to put matters right.

Compared to the Dream I thought on OV2 the soft furnishings were of much better standard, carpets etc right through ship, same in the cabins, decor was much better, also thought the buffet food was far superior,oh and so was the Air con :DHaving said that, enjoyed my cruise on the Dream better.Happier ship, more deck space, atmosphere, entertainment, friendlier and more helpful staff and the food in the Orion was excellent
