Ft Lauderdale Port Car Rental

Does anyone know if I can get a rental car right at the pier or do I need to get it at the airport? Driving to the in-laws after our cruise.

We got off Oasis in Ft Lauderdale 2 weeks ago and had to go to the airport to pick up our car, but there are free shuttle buses right outside the entrance.

The free shuttle bus will drop you off outside the rental car center which is located in the Terminal building. 100-200 foot walk to the rental counters. Avis is the closest then Hertz and Alamo. Some of the smaller ones are located at a different spot inside the terminal building.

Correct the rental car center is now at the airport and a free shuttel bus will transport you.

Dollar has an office very near the pier. We have found them to be the best deal since there are no airport fees involved. They pick you up in their own van and you are at the counter before the other vans get to the airport.

is the shuttle only for certain companies? We usually rent from National and will most likely rent from them again.

The bus is for certain companies, National being one of them, but documents are not always checked when boarding the bus.

Our experiences with the shuttle are that they ask to see your reserv busation before boarding Could have changed since Jan/10 tho. Also, some drivers may be more lenient then others.

FYI, Budget does not participate in the shuttle bus.
