Princess Secrets they Don't Tell You

Do you happen to know - They charge for the Serenty area but do they charge for the spay area ie the steamrooms or thermal rooms?

They do charge for the thermal suites. They tell you they only sell it for the entire cruise, but typically, they do not sell out. If you inquire at the desk, they'll sell you a full day pass for $20. I, personally, prefer to chill out at the sanctuary, but the thermal suite is fun for short periods of time

A number of ships have the Thermal Suites which cost extra but all ships also have Steam Rooms and/or Saunas in the Spa area that are available for no cost.

Good point about the perfume. I get migraines from the smell of too much perfume. My tip is to make sure you bring your migraine meds with you: :D

I find that vanilla helps keep the smell of too much perfume away so I buy a package of tea candles that are vanilla and keep with me. Of course always have both my migraine meds in my purse.

I'm bookmarking this thread for future reference for our upcoming AK cruise next month! Great info. We r on same ship I was on for PC cruise 16mo ago so @ least know the lay out!

Any other AK tips? I'm getting stressed over this whole land tour thing and the train/bus/luggage/food issues!:confused:

Are you aware that candles are prohibited in cabins?

Fire is the biggest danger on cruise ships.

On some other cruise lines, you must carry these items on. Does Princess allow you to check them in? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I've been asking on other sites and still don't have an answer...........can you bring local beers aboard when cruising in Alaska?

I know they have some unusual, local ones up there and my son enjoys trying various kinds. We will be doing our own tour for a few days on the Kenai Peninsula before sailing so if he can bring it on, he may purchase some.

Thanks for any info. regarding this.;)

Anytime dining has the same menu as traditional seating

I wouldn't hang clothes on the balcony, as they may blow away. I find if I hang things in the closet, they tend to dry overnight

I bring just a few clothespins and clip things to the chair backs on our balcony...............like having a DRY swimsuit to put back on!:p

As a parent who's children are living else where, isn't Disney more for families?

There a lot of couples that go on the Disney cruises, we were on one a year ago April (with my DSister, her DH & DS) and there was a couple of newlyweds and loads of couples and even a few singles. One positive about Disney is that you can bring on any and all kinds of liquor that you want even in you carry on, they don't care. And their shows are some of the best I have see on any of my cruises. It is just myself and my DH and I would go on Disney again if they price is right.

Were the laundry rooms closed on any days?

If you did the southbound, did you have to fill out a US Customs form at any point after you disembarked in Canada at Vancouver?

Did Libby Riddles give a talk when the ship was docked in Juneau? If so, do you know what time it was?

Thanks

I just read a july review of the coral princess where they said the horizon court is the only available place to eat breakfast. This is not the case as the MDR is also available for breakfast. I think it is important to read the Patters carefully to get the most out of your shipboard experience.

I didn't check but I did my laundry on embarkation day so I don't think that they close.

We were southbound and you have to fill out a Canadian customs before you get off and a US customs at the airport in Vancouver. It takes about 1 hour to get through customs and get to your gate.

Libby Riddles was on in Juneau I think about 2, we were on an excursion at that time.

We did stay there but didn't have time for any of the evening tours. The lodge was nice and has a great deck on the Chena river to sit and eat or have a drink. We didn't eat there we went to Fred Meyers(grocery store) by shuttle to get something, they have a deli counter with most everything you would want and a great salad bar. If you want a good Salmon Bake go to the Pioneer Park it is really good. All you can eat $32.00.

such great information here, thank you to all!

We have been away from Princess for a few years now so curious if a few things have changed?

Is smoking still allowed in the casino? We have loved Celebrity's no smoking policy as it makes the casino so much more pleasant for those of us that do not smoke?

I remember when Princess use to have a seafood buffet the day of embarkation, sounds like that is not there any longer but we could request crab legs any night with 24 hr notice, is this correct?

How is the nightly entertainment on board? We are considering going on the Caribbean Princess again (it has been years since we sailed on her) I remember Princess had amazing Pizza, is it still really good? Any other must do or must knows?

I haven't seen them on the menu, but I may have missed it

Pizza continues to be really good, so is the entertainment. I was recently on the Caribb. Princess and that sailing was the best food I've had on any Princess ship. Of course, things can change depending on cooks, etc. Any other must do or must knows?

"On the larger ships, such as the Ruby, Emerald, Crown, etc., there is a secret door that leads out to a deck above the bridge."

Does anyone know if this applies to the Star? I saw the question asked a while back, but never saw an answer.

I wouldn't call it a secret door. There is access to the deck over the bridge from the Sun deck. Access to the deck is typically only permitted when in port or during slow speed scenic viewing such as when viewing glaciers in Alaska or South America. This is a photo taken on the Star while viewing the Amalia Glacier in Chile. The railing in the foreground is the walkway on Sun deck in front of the Fitness Center. There is a walkway from there to the deck over the Bridge with a gate that is usually locked when underway.
