Formal night dress down - Why complain?

For me, it's more a matter of mentally uncomfortable, not physically uncomfortable. The two outfits I wore for formal night were extremely comfortable. However, going out dancing (or whatever) after dinner, I would prefer not to have to worry about getting anything on my formal clothes. I'm just generally more comfortable in jeans.

Couldn't agree with you more. Posted my disappointment with the Island Princess Alaska cruise on the Princess board........talk about intolerance. Thought it was an open forum dealing with Princess topics, but found it is a Princess fan club. One dare not say anything negative to a select group which makes up the inner circle.

We stay dressed in formal attire after dinner, because we like to go dancing in the evenings. It's just more romantic to be out dancing with my honey when there's an elegant atmosphere and we're enjoying each other and know we're looking our best. My hubby looks fantastic in a tux and since he doesn't have to dress in a suit for work, the formal nights on the cruise are our times to shine.

We always change our clothes. I'm on vacation and want to be comfortable. I didn't see anything in my trip documents that says I have to remain formal for the whole night.

I remember reading your review of your Island Princess cruise and I too thought that some of the responses were unnecessarily nasty. I will never understand the mentality of those who think that just because they like something that everybody must like it. It's a shame that a vocal few can make it feel like the whole board is against you!

 

Anyway, I'm sorry you had an unpleasant trip. I had a less-than-perect cruise on Carnival last year (after many wonderful cruises on that line) and know how disappointing it can be.

RCI used to request that you remain dressed for the rest of the evening. Don't they do that anymore?

On our most recent cruise, we all went back and changed after dinner and the show. But instead of changing into shorts/tanks or other really casual clothes, we changed into "still nice just not quite as fancy." My sister and I took off our stockings and changed from formal high-heeled shoes to low heel dress sandals. We put on more casual dresses that still looked nice. The boys took off the tuxes and put on casual slacks with collared shirts (no tie). We still looked nice. So I guess what I'm saying is that it seems odd that most posters are discussing only the extremes--there is a middle ground for after dinner on formal night, IMO.

 

To those who are offended by pax not formally dressed all night: Please keep in mind that RCI (and most cruiselines) offer casual dining options for those who choose not to dress formally. How do you expect them to get to and from these venues? Do you expect them to dress up so as not to spoil your night? How about pax taking advantage of evening swimming and hot-tubbing? Sorry if that sounds snotty, but hasn't this been discussed repeatedly? RCI allows the casual option, so everyone is just going to have to live with it.

I always head back after dinner and put on shorts & a t-shirt. But I don't go to shows, bars, casino, etc. I go to the jogging track and walk for an hour or so. I rarely exercise at home, but I love walking on a cruise and watching/listening to the ocean.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>They still call them formal nights, and not formal dinners, but they also offer casual dining in the Windjammer.

 

If half (or whatever percent it is that eats in the WJ) the people don't even have to dress for dinner and certainly aren't going to slip into a tux after dinner, how can you request that the other half stay dressed for the evening?

My dress fits snugly enough I need no bra, and with a long gown I certainly do not need pantyhose. My heels are extremely comfortable - I bought them specifically for that reason. I have never worn a girdle in my life and certainly do not plan to start on a cruise.

 

Now...what big deal are you talking about?

 

I NEVER get the chance to dress up, so for me, this will be pure fun. I plan to enjoy it to the max, and I will stay in my gown until the fat lady sings and I hit the hay.

 

Adventure of the Seas will be our maiden cruise!
