Vancouver Island

After our cruise from Alaska in August 2005 we are spending 3 days on Salt Spring Island and are planning to go to Vancouver Island on the ferry for a day.

We will probably have some form of transport (either car or scooters), what are the 'must-see' bits of Van. Isle. What are the best parts to head for?

We will also have 2 days in Vancouver itself before flying home, again any 'must-do's' there?

We are staying at the Hyatt Regency so we will be pretty central but won't have a car.

Thanks

The dutch bakery on Fort Street( bring your appetite)has great food.High tea at the Empress Hotel. The museum that is just up the street from the empress.everything is walking didtance from the center harbour area.

If you really have time to out to Collwood( just past esquimalt) at the fort rod hill park.Don't turn off to the park keep on the road till you come to the beautiful place on earth just over the wooden train tressel and park.If the tide is out you can walk under the bridge and see all kinds of sea live.

Enjoy...:D

If this is your first visit to Vancouver Island, you don't want to miss the

Butchart Gardens. We live only a few miles from there and get an annual pass

every year. IF you have transportation, it is easy to find and has plenty of

free parking. Have a look at

http://butchartgardens.com/

August can be a busy month in the Victoria area, so plan to come over early

from Saltspring Island and spend a full day before returning. Better yet, think

about a B&B for 1 night to be able to see more. A google search for

"tourism+victoria+BC+canada" will get you lots of information.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

Yes, you MUST go to Buchart Gardens. It's an easy drive from downtown Victoria. Hint: take the coastal route up - it only adds about 20 minutes to the ride and it's very pretty.

We drove to Brentwood Bay and took the ferry (with the car) over the Mills Bay. We had lunch at a little cafe that's right at the ferry landing, looks like nothing but had wonderful food. Can't remember the name. Then we drove from Mill's Bay back to Victoria, stopping along the way for some coffee at another place whose name escapes me for coffee & a spectacular view.
