jspirit Posted August 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2010 Are the beaches in Barcelona good for swimming, in July and August? How is the water temperature, and is the sand soft for walking or rocky? Has anyone been to the beach near the Hotel Icaria- supposed to be a 5 minute walk away? Thanks ! riffatsea Posted August 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2010 Soft sand and reasonably warm water. Here is info in English about the different beaches you can reach by walking along the seafront. http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/wwwfiles/bcnweb/portada/bcnbeachcatang-opt.pdf The beach hotels like the Icaria are just a bit out of the way for the normal tourist sites but still doable as public transportation + taxis are good. Kerry's Girls Posted August 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2010 We stayed at the W Hotel on our last visit to Barcelona and the beach was lovely. Nice sand, nice boardwalk and lots of little drinking places dotted throughout. It is out of the way from the main areas though. Best, Mia
jspirit Posted August 31, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted August 31, 2010 Thanks. We are just thinking of a relaxing post-cruise stay after having spent a few days pre-cruise in the center of the city. Are the W Hotel and the Hilton Diagonal on the same beach area as the Icaria? Short taxi ride from port ? The reason for my beach question is that we took a beach excursion to Samil Beach in Vigo, Spain and the water was ICE cold! That is the Atlantic Ocean so Barcelona beaches should be warmer , I hope.
