Aerial Skyride/Tram vs Mountain Top

I've been to Mountain Top and the views from up there are tough to beat. From the pictures I've seen from the Aerial Tram, it seems like it doesn't compare favourably with Mountain Top. Any thoughts on this? The Skyride would also run about $40 for two. I was at Mountain Top as part of a tour so I am wondering what I could expect to pay a taxi to take two of us from the Red Hook ferry terminal up to Mountain Top and then back to Haversight cruise dock, as well as the average travel time for a mid-afternoon Monday.
