vickie_bernie Posted September 24, 2010 #26 Share Posted September 24, 2010 From the Atlantic to the Pacific (as you are going), you will actually be heading southeast as you transit the canal. It is definitely worth being in the lowest possible windowed spot during the transit through one of the locks. You will get to see how close to the edge you are and all the paint scrapes along the wall. i think you meant south west
BillB48 Posted September 25, 2010 #27 Share Posted September 25, 2010 Going from Colon to Panama City via the Canal, Panama City is to the South and East, the sun actually rises a few minutes earlier than it does in Colon. Traveling in this direction you will leave Colon from the Northwest and exit the Canal Southeast at Panama City, (Balboa.) Panama defies most peoples mental image of it's location, if you are in Panama City/Colon, Costa Rica is to the West and Colombia to the East while the Atlantic (Caribbean) is North of the Pacific. I believe Panama is the only place you can see the sun rise in the Pacific and set in the Atlantic, (Caribbean.) Happy Cruising!
