Hilo beaches

Aloha. I concur with CruisingGoddess about scanning the first few pages and using the search feature (advanced search is much better than the standard one). Besides the current thread up front, there are other recent threads with similar questions and some good information.

A note that the Hilo area is not really full of prime beaches for sunning and swimming. Hilo is on the windward side (east) and generally has more rain and wind with rougher ocean conditions. Other than Richardson, I can't think of a "really nice" beach for sunning and swimming in the Hilo area.

Hilo is not known for its beaches. This is the newer side of the island (volcano lava flows creates new land and needs time to break down into sand and to develop reefs) so swimming beaches are not yet formed. Stay on the ship for swimming and sunning.
