I have only once seen a person with a cigarette in an inappropriate place. I looked out of the window [of a CS on M-class ship] and saw someone put a cigarette into his mouth on a balcony a few doors along. He saw that I had seen him, immediately removed the cigarette and put it away. I never saw him do it again [and I was watching!]. In the circumstances, I did not report it because it seemed that he had learned his lesson!

I don't get it. If you have 9 people who had a problem and nine said that hte problem was resolced, how can there be four where the problem wasn't resolved?

Some of us have had multiple problems. Sometimes they took care of it, sometimes not.

That's the reason for the poll, I'd like to see if the policy is being enforced. Our experience is that it most certainly is, but I'm curious to see how typical our experience is before I draw any further conclusions. There certainly are people who are reporting both non-compliance and non-enforcement ( they are not the same), and I'd just like to see what we get here.

Here we go again......just another thread to "stir things up"! Why can't the non-smokers let things be. Celebrity has already gone the extra mile by prohibiting smoking on balconies and in the casino and bars/lounges. Can't we smokers just have a little peace? I know we are the scum of the earth, but the majority of us really do try and stay in our own space - our "designated" areas. Thank you.

P. S. Since I did not realize this was a "Multiple Choice" poll, you can add another smoker to the mix - now 13...........

Finally someone besides me, I swear nonsmokers manners seem to have become equally as bad. Lurking about to catch someone to report. What about the smoke from the ship. Cut us a break, and I know the second hand smoke thing, but people die each day from drunk drivers, not second hand smokers, what if the ship limited drinks?

From the Original Post with regard to the Poll:

"This came up in another thread and I just got a little curious. No intent to be controversial. Please just vote your own experience in the pole."

Frankly, I don't care what you do as long as you follow the rules and confine yourself to the smoking areas.

The cruise line(s) have saved my wife and I a considerable amount of money by limiting smoking on cruise ships. Since we both smoke and smoking is now so forbidden, especially in the casinos and on balconies, we do not spend near the money that we used to spend in the casinos nor do we drink as much alcohol as we once did. It is a given fact that, as a general rule, smokers tend to spend more money in the casinos when they can have drinks and a smoke.

Now, we do understand and respect non-smokers and their right to be free of this disgusting habit and the associated health concerns. I only wish that non-smokers could be a little more understanding about US smokers who do abide by the rules and not turn their noses up or make such an ugly face when they do pass us when we are smoking in a designated area. If you know we are in a designated smoking area and it bothers you, take a different route.

As a severe asthmatic, there is nothing worse for me than to have to walk thru an area where there are smokers. So many cruises were ruined for me because of cruisers who spent their entire cruise on the balcony smoking and I had to stay in my adjacent cabin. I should not be subjected to second hand smoke. If people choose to smoke, they are free to book any hotel, ship, etc. where smoking is welcomed. I look for hotels and ships that limit or prohibit smoking -

So far, I think that there are two conclusions to be drawn from the early results:

1) The number of Non-smokers FAR exceeds the number of Smokers. Last time I looked the national percentage of Smokers in the general population was around 20%; these results to me would at least imply that Celebrity's Smoking Restrictions are attracting Non-smokers from the other lines, while Smokers may well be leaving Celebrity for some of the Competition.

2) The number of people who have found a problem on the ships and have not had the issue addressed by the ship is disturbing a little. Small numbers, but perhaps some additional persistence is needed in seeing that the rules are enforced......Interesting, that's counter to my personal experience.

I would like to make it absolutely clear that I have no issue with those who are within the guidelines. While I personally, might prefer a completely no-smoking ship, that is not the reality of the current World, and as long as the published rules are obeyed then, I will neither complain nor point fingers at anyone.

But the questions here are, what are the percentage of current Celebrity Cruisers who Smoke or do Not, and are the rules being enforced. That's what this poll is about.
