Rare shof515 Posted September 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2010 From the cruise line: Halifax City TourTravel through streets paved with history as you explore Nova Scotia's capital city. On this excursion you will: * View the cities main highlights and the Titanic Cemetery on board a motorcoach. * With your kilted guide, you will see the bustling Halifax waterfront, Historic Properties, Cable Wharf and Public Gardens before heading up one of Canada's most visited National Historic Sites, Citadel Hill for a panoramic view of the city. * Here you will have time for photos and have a spectacular view of the Halifax Harbour and the historic Town Clock. * Visit Fairview Lawn Cemetery, where 121 Titanic passengers were laid to rest, and hear some of their fascinating personal stories told by your knowledgeable guide. * Visit the Public Garden , a beautiful oasis in the heart of the city * Your return to the ship takes you through beautiful residential and university districts, where you will learn more about the history and culture of Nova Scotia's capital city. * This relaxing, informative tour will give you all the city's highlights, returning to the pier in plenty of time for you to take another tour or continue exploring Halifax at your own pace. * Have an optional drop off at Historic Properties for those that wish. Anyone have done a similar tour and have thoughts on this?

maryann ns Posted May 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2011 This sounds like a half day or less bus tour with no getting off the bus. I would see its value for those who can't walk. However, even in this case you might get a far better tour by hiring a taxi or van. Most of the places mentioned are within walking distance of the pier. A short taxi ride will take you to the top of the Citadel. This tour does not take you to the Maritime Museum with its Titanic artifacts.

MonaCD Posted May 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2011 Can you walk to the Fairview Cemetery? It's about 4 miles from the pier to the cemetary Map You can walk it I suppose but maybe better to take a cab
epicTLR Posted May 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2011 We have 6 people in our party. Is it easy to hire a cab when we get to port? I'm thinking whether I should book a van tour ahead of time or play by ear. Thanks.
maryann ns Posted May 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2011 You would need two cabs and they should be available. If you want them for the day, then probably booking a van tour would make more sense.
aussieinva Posted May 31, 2011 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2011 We looked at this last year as well. We ended up taking the Peggy's Cove and Titanic Excursion as it took us to the places that weren't within walking distance of the boat but still gave us time to explore the rest on our own. The Citadel and Public Gardens are worth a look and are a 10-20 minute walk or short cab ride from port. I would recommend either doing a shorter excursion with the cruise line or get a cab, van etc for Peggy's Cove and Fairlawn cemetery and do the other stuff at your own pace on your own as it is so close to port. Let me know if you want more info
