Kurbanfan Posted September 17, 2010 #26 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Not in so many words. Intent is clear for all but the dense. (see -didn't actually call you dense) Asking questions to try to figure out how this could possibly happen:confused: I still don't understand how this could happen .......care to clue me in:confused: People end up buying insurance without their knowledge and have no idea what it covers? blindrid Posted September 17, 2010 #27 Share Posted September 17, 2010 How could anyone not know they paid for insurance......don't you get a breakdown of what you paid for on a invoice:confused: And paying for insurance without receiving a policy:confused: Which means you don't even know what is covered and what is not......Wow what an easy scam........they get a comission for selling insurance policies........ First of all, you do get a breakdown of costs when booked. I also received another one after my final payment. With insurance, they do not mail a policy but it is normally downloaded for documentation needs when you travel. No scam in this case, just maybe someone not paying close attention. Definitely call the PVP and plead your case. Lighten up.
dec2007w3boys Posted September 17, 2010 #28 Share Posted September 17, 2010 I am so glad I read this post. We booked our cruise last spring and said no to the insurance. I have the email confirmation from them for the booking -and there is no insurance included. $0 in those fields. I just logged onto carnival.com and went to manage my bookings. Guess what is now there........ insurance. Err..... My final payment is coming out automatically on the 21st of this month. I am going to remove it again now, but I would be royally p' o'd if I were the op. Interesting I had a call from our pvp on Wed reminding me of the final payment and how we are set up for automatic final payment, etc. No mention of balence due. Thanks for posting OP!!! gsu_paintballer Posted September 17, 2010 #30 Share Posted September 17, 2010 It just suddenly appears? I don't get it:confused: Basically. One day it was not in "My Billing", and the next day it was.

And if you don't purchase it then they just add it to your bill right before final payment and if you are not paying attention like most that just say use my credit card when final payment comes..........then you get zapped for something you did not want:confused: You wouldn't even know it until you get your credit card bill like some have mentioned......okay.... I book thru a TA and all our insurance policies are paid separate....separate quote, separate invoice, separate payment......we get a policy that shows our coverage and a card to carry with us....... I wonder how many people don't even pick up on it..... There was no insurance "card" but the documents printed out along with all my other cruise stuff (luggage tags, boarding pass, etc). Obviously, the premium shows up under Manage Your Cruise as I just checked mine and it says "NONE". It would suck if I would check tomorrow and it says "YES"........ izzypooch Posted September 17, 2010 Author #35 Share Posted September 17, 2010 I just talked to a "Service Specialist" at Carnival regarding this and since there has been some interest, thought I would report back. Bottom line, according to her, is I'm stuck as AFTER FINAL PAYMENT, it cannot be taken off of your billing. I believe another poster had indicated the same scenerio had happened to her. Having the insurance is not the worst thing, I know, as many people wouldn't think of cruising without it, however, I feel as if I was somewhat tricked into purchasing it and that is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Just to clarify (for a few who wondered how I could be so dumb as to not know I was buying insurance) on each and every booking confirmation I was emailed prior to final payment the $190 amount was shown as OPTIONAL CHARGE. At the time of booking, after telling the PVP that I did not want the vacation protection add-on, he took it upon himself to say "well, you can always buy it later" so when I saw OPTIONAL, I assumed that meant I was not going to be charged for it unless I told him I wanted it. At no time was I told that I had to tell him I didn't want it before final payment or it would be applied to the total. I do agree that I was at fault not knowing what the exact amount of my final payment should have been so that I would have realized it had been tacked on, but according to the woman I talked to it wouldn't have mattered even if I had called right away. Once final payment was made it was too late. Oh, and I asked her if I had purchased it, why wasn't I sent a copy of the contract and she said it could be downloaded from the website. Hummm. So, lesson learned. If you don't want it, be firm and don't allow PVP to add it to your booking as optional. And, as others have stated, keep a close eye on what you are being charged for before final payment as you could be billed -- either accidentially or on purpose -- for stuff you didn't ask for. Rosefloater Posted September 27, 2010 #37 Share Posted September 27, 2010 I went to book another cruise w/my TA. When she told me the amount, I told her it was higher than what I figured. She looked over the booking and noticed that the insurance is automatically included unless you check the OPT OUT box. Once she opted out, price was the same that I figured. riviera Posted September 27, 2010 #39 Share Posted September 27, 2010 I think it may depend on your PVP, because the last time we booked, he automatically added it without even discussing it. Like you, I didn't notice for a while, but fortunately I caught it and when I called , he said "oh, we just add it automatically for customer service, afterall, we don't recommend travelling without it." I hope, for your sake, they will make an adjustment. If you can ADD the insurance close to sailing, you should be able to DELETE the insurance during the same time frame. Good luck!
