Puerto Limon excursions

We will be cruising with Hal in November. We are trying to decide which excursion to go on. We are torn between the Tortuguero Canals (4 1/2 hrs) or Rain Forest Aerial Tram (7 1/2 hrs). Any guidance or opinions on this would be appreciated.

The day before will have been spent at the Panama Canal doing the Canal Experience. Not sure if we want another long day away from the ship.

Hi Highland!:) We are doing the Tortuguero Canals (instead of the tram) because we were told the tram was like 30 minutes and the other seven hours were busing to and from the tram. We also picked the 7am Canal departure to avoid the mid-day heat as much as possible (the later tour goes at 11:15am) and we should be back for lunch. A much shorter day than the Canal Experience the day prior (as you said):). Don't forget your insect repellant! See you over on the roll call board.

Both are good . . . If the tram one is the Veragua Rain Forest it really isn't that much about the tram. The tram at Veragua is mainly to get you up and down a mountain, but the rest of the experience is very interesting and well worth the ride out, which gives you a great view of what Costa Rica is all about. The guided walks through the rain forest, the exhibits (snakes, nighttime frogs, butterflies) are well done. It does require walking to get the most out of the trip.

The Tortuguero Canals are interesting, but it is just a sit back and look trip.

First- you might want to post this on the Costa Rica board that is under "Caribbean".

If the Rain Forest Tram is the same one we took in 2003 (I'm pretty sure it is) then the ride itself is about 90 minutes long. You go out slowly at one level and back slowly at a higher level. You and the guide look for animals, birds, flowers etc. We enjoyed it but did not see that many animals, although we did get a quick glance at monkeys. The bus ride to the tram is a bit long but interesting especially if you want to see some of the beautiful Costa Rican countryside. Our guide keep us entertained with information about Costa Rica.

On our second visit in 2007 we took the Sloth Sanctuary Tour and enjoyed that very much.
