2009cruise Posted September 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2010 Hello, We will be stopping in St Croix on cruise on a Saturday in Jan2011 and would like to go to Sandy Point beach for the day. Has anyone gone to this beach? What is the easiest way to get there and back to the port? taxi? bus? water taxi? I read on other posts by Islander that taxis don't want to go there - so how do you get there? Any info appreciated. Thanks, 2009cruise.
dvrdude Posted September 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2010 Unless your going to rent a car Sandy Point is going to be tough. Frankly not that great a beach to hang out on for a day. No facilities, wierd currents at the south end, and nothing to see on the bottom but sand and sea biscuits/sand dollars/conch. Kind of remote too (read-off the beaten path) and for a non-local probably not the safest place to hang out, and certainly not leave possessions on the beach while swimming, etc. Go to Carambola or Cane Bay. Taxis will take you to either and you'll see more and have facilities and surely be safer. Just my $0.02. Jim
Keksie Posted October 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2010 Sandy Point is closed a lot too because of the turtles.
SFRosie Posted October 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Sandy Point is closed from April-beginning of September because of the turtle nesting. It is nearly impossible to get there without renting a car - and preferably a 4wd at that. Looks terrible, doesn't it?
