nutsngum Posted September 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2010 Can anyone give me an idea of how much I'll be paying for cab fare? I'm staying right by the Pathenon. So to get an idea how much would it be to say, the Coliseum and to Vatican City?
euro cruiser Posted September 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2010 It depends on too many things - traffic that day, direction taken, etc. You can read about the official taxi fares here: http://www.comune.roma.it/was/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s.7_0_A/7_0_21L?menuPage=/Area_di_navigazione/Sezioni_del_portale/Dipartimenti_e_altri_uffici/Dipartimento_mobilit-13-_e_trasporti/Trasporto_pubb-9-_non_di_linea/TAXI/Tariffa_fissa_da_e_per_aeroporti/Fixed_rates_from_and_to_the_airports/
LovesSicily Posted September 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2010 An estimated figure would be between E 5,00 to 10,00 plus a tip. If you are staying at a hotel a cab can be called for you, otherwise, you must go to a taxi stand for the Commune di Roma cabs. The official cabs of Rome are white with black decals on the doors. Sometimes, if the distance is not great the drivers may refuse the trip. If possible I would recommend walking at least one way to these sites, there are so many wonderful things to see along the way.
agabbymama Posted September 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2010 In addition to the already mentioned, time of day also makes a difference in the rate. And if you have your hotel call a taxi, the meter starts from where they are, not when they pick you up at the hotel. We stayed at a hotel about 10 blocks from the Vatican, and each time we rode the cab, the cost was different. From 8 EUR to 11 EUR for that same 10 block drive. But morning around 9:00 am, noon, and 5:00 pm will get you 3 varying amounts. Just take double the money you think you need. A lot of people say tipping is not customary in Europe, but we didn't find that to be the case at all. And Italy especially has the fee for sitting (usually 5 EUR) for us. We enjoyed our visit there, and seeing the old history, but it was expensive! Enjoy your trip!
letsgo39 Posted September 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2010 Our hotel located at Campo di Fiori called a taxi for us to go to Termini. The fare was 12 euro which included 2 large suitcases. The charge for suitcases is 1 euro each. This was about 11:00 A.M. I would guess the fare from your hotel to the Vatican would be about 8 to 10 euro. It is really not a terribly far walk to the Coliseum from the Pantheon area.Campo di Fiori is near the Pantheon. As far as tip goes just round up to the next euro.It would be cheaper fo you to go to the nearest taxi stand rather than have your hotel call. Do not under any condition hail a taxi on the street.
texancruzer Posted September 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2010 Well, that depends........ you are either staying by the Pantheon in Rome or the Parthenon in Athens - the later would be a big taxi bill :D sorry - couldnt resist. Do not taxi to the coliseum from the Pantheon. The walk is not far and lots of neat streets with cool stuff poping up everywhere....... however - take a taxi to Vatican City. It is walkable but a bit far. We found taxis in Rome to be reasonable. And convenient and easy to use. Only one driver couldnt speak a bit of English...... I had address ;) but all will know coliseum - Vatican etc.
