donnasperls Posted September 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2010 We will be doing two cruises back to back MSC Melody 25/03/2011 and then MSC Fantasia 05/04/2011. We are planning to fly into Rome on the 23/03/2011 and embark on the MSC Melody in Rome on the 26th (giving us a couple of days in Rome). After the Fantasia docks in Genoa (the day that it ports in Rome we will be on board enjoying the amenities) on the 16/04/2011 we are planning on catching the train to Venice and spending two nights and one day in Venice departing Venice airport on the 18/04/2011. Is there any major problems with this itinerary that anyone can see? Also any suggestions on the best hotels to stay at in Venice for the short time that we have there? We would like this hotel to be nice but not too extravagant as it will be last night in Italy before we have to come home :( Thank you for your assistance
cielolama Posted September 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2010 Hi, We've been to both cities several times and will be in both again later this year. I don't see any problems with your itinerary, but both cities have so much to offer that you could easily spend more time in each. So, my suggestion is that you stay close to the historic centers so that you aren't spending time getting from your hotel to the major sites, and so that your evening time can be spent walking around the historic areas. In Venice, my suggestion is to stay at a hotel close to Piazza San Marco if this is your first time in Venice. We've stayed in and can recommend these hotels - Loconda Orseola, Hotel Flora and Hotel Casanova, recommended in that order. These are moderately priced for Venice. You can easily spend much, much more. Figure out you budget and then do some searches on Trip Advisor or other sites, googling Venice hotels. Enjoy! hubofhockey Posted September 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2010 We loved Locanda Orseolo in Venice - great location, great included breakfast, very helpful staff, and moderate price (great price for what you get). We will stay there again if we ever get back to Venice.
