Talk to me about this place. How's the food? Is it worth it to have lunch there or just eat on the ship? What's the vibe - laid back, party central or sometimes a little of both? Just curious if this is worth it to plan to while away a few hours here after our morning reef snorkel excursion. From what I've been able to research, this is about the only bar/restaurant in the tourist village at the pier. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions.

Food and drinks were good. The place was going pertty good when we were there.

It gets crowded around noon time, but wait's not long. Cold Belkins, conch fritters and meat pies..can't go wrong there. Laid back but if a party crowd wanders in it'll hop pretty good. Not a Sr Frogs type of place with dancing and yard longs though.

We stopped in there this past February and just had the salsa and chips. They were OK. Not at all like the salsa we have here. We ate in the upstairs outside area. It was crowded but no party going on. Just a nice relaxed atmosphere. My husband really liked the beer. We will probably go back there on our next cruise.

Go for the Belikin. Eat well on the ship. If you want some local taste. The "local" food here in Belize is Stew Chicken With Rice and Beans.

1. Belize Rice and Beans

 

Rice and beans with a choice of stewed beef, chicken, pork, lobster, shrimp or game meat (the gibnut is FABULOUS) is one of the most important items on the Belize diet, approaching something like the national dish. The meat is cooked with recado (a spice made with annato seed a native herb with a characteristic deep red colour), and garlic.

Belize Rice and Beans is cooked in coconut milk. The dish is served with potato salad and ripe fried or baked plantain when in season and fresh habanero and onion sauce. Belize Rice and Beans reigns as the quintessential Belize dish.

This is the only place in Belize where I'd personally feel safe eating the food. We had southwestern type dishes that were good.
