Pier area

We have been to the Caymen Islands before and may not be taking any excursions this time. Done all the ones that interest us. Anyway, even though we've been there, we can't for the life of me remember what the pier area was like. Are there little shops or a framers market type area right off the ship?

yeah there are some small shops right there in the pier center as well as across the street.

within a few blocks of the pier. Just bring a lot of money. It's not a cheap port.

There are a few shops right when you get off the tender and then lots of shops, bars and restaurants across the street and down several blocks.

There is no pier per se in Grand Cayman. All the ships anchor offshore and you tender in on small boats. The ships pull up just off the main drag, so you are literally right downtown when you step off the boat. Plenty of restaurants, shops, strip malls, etc. within a few blocks. No need to take a bus or taxi "downtown". Beaches are, however, a few blocks to a few miles away.

This was my experience as well when we sailed to GC in September. If you want to spend the day wandering through bars and shops there are plenty within walking distance to keep you occupied.
