Jan 29- day & a half in San Juan, what to do?

We are cruising with Carnival Jan 30th. We fly in at 4pm on Jan 29th. That gives us all night on Sat and all day on Sunday (ship doesnt leave port til 10pm) to do stuff in San Juan. Last time we were there we did El Yunque and a short beach stop. We are now wondering what we can do the evening of Sat the 29th and morning/afternoon of Sun the 30th before boarding the ship around 3pm or so. Figured since we didnt see the fort and old san juan much last time we would do that on Sunday...but then what do we do with all of our luggage?

And what would you suggest Sat night? We wanted to do the biobay kayak but they are not doing a tour that evening due to full moon.

Also...what hotel would you suggest to stay at on Sat night? something not to expensive but something clean and nice...and prefer close to food/shopping or beach area to visit in the evening. A casino isnt a bad idea either :D

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am not sure where you got the info that there is a full moon on 1/29/11 and no tours....The full moon is the week before and actually the 29th would be an excellent viewing night. I would go with your original plan and do the biobay (do the boat trip to Vieques if you can swing the price). It is a great experience.

We were in San Juan a couple weeks ago and did a tour called Legends of PR. It was very informative and very nice. The tour guide, Debbie, did her very best to keep us entertained and when it started to rain she took us inside different buildings to continue her tour. I would definitely call them again for a different tour the next time we are in SJ.

They will tell you about the moon and if there is an available tour, they do a good job. They offer two trips an evening if the demand is there. I suggest their earlier trip because that trip leaves when there is just enough light to see the mangroves along the channel but it still gets dark enough to appreciate the glow from the little critters when you disturb the water. also gets you back to the hotel at a reasonable hour.

Use your cell phone to give them a call (it should be free call) and their folks will be helpful, friendly, and the lady I talked to was actually from New England so no language issues. Our experience was excellent with them.

Note that they will pick you up at your hotel for a very reasonable price and you need to make certain that you consider this option if you do not have a rental car. Farahado (sp?) is about a $90 cab ride away from SJ/OSJ.
