RMM34667 Posted October 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2010 My 76 year old mother is concerned about the Muster/Safety Drill. Previous Cruises she has hid out in the cabin. Last cruise we talked to our steward first and he was OK with it. He gave her a form to fill out so that in the case of a real emergency someone would come assist her. She has had hip surgery since then and does get around much better. And it probably would be easier with the No Lifejacket drill. I figured we could go to the assigned area before it starts. But I know she wouldn't be able to stand through the entire process. And every ship does it different. Sometimes we just had to listen to a safety talk and demonstration of putting on your life jackets. But at least once we had to line up and actually go out to where the life boats where. Any tips on how we should deal with it on the Legend? Thanks.
firefly333 Posted October 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2010 If she is unable to go outside for the demo, then ask someone in a orange vest and she can go sit in a a/c room with the HC folks. We have done this a few times. Just tell them she cant do it, and they will tell you where to go.
pattimelt Posted October 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 16, 2010 I am due for total knee replacement, so I can't do stairs, AT ALL. When I have been on the ship for muster drill, there are always seats available. After we are taught how to put on a life jacket, when everyone is escorted to the actual lifeboats, I have been told to stay where I was, and then a Carnival employee has put me on a list of people that would need additional assistance if something happened. They ask for name and cabin number.
*Mach* Posted October 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Touch base with the folks at Guest Services... Your mom will be assigned a crew member to take care of her should there be an emergency. She won't be required to attend the safety drill but will get a briefing... :)
RMM34667 Posted October 16, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted October 16, 2010 thanks I had her read all your responses. We will contact guest services and I think she will go, just early and sit. Thanks again.
firefly333 Posted October 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2010 then you dont need to contact guest services, unless you think she might need help in a emergency. Just ask anyone with a orange vest on where to sit for HC. We have sat various places, the dining room one time, another time in the library, whichever room was close and vacant. Iv even sat in a bar one time.
