Venice can load luggage, then leave ship for awhile?

We will be in Venice the day before our 5/23 cruise on the NCL Jade in a suite. Am wondering if, on the day we embark, can we bring our luggage aboard, then leave the ship to see some more of Venice prior to when our ship leaves? Has anyone done this and how easy is it?

Of course you can. You can do it with or without checking in. You can just drop your luggage with the porter and than head into Venice. Most lines will let you do this around 11:00. You could also go through the check-in process and than go back off the ship.

Was on the Ruby this past June and it was about a 15 minute ride on a boat shuttle over to St Marks from the pier. I believe Alliguna has an express boat shuttle between the pier and St Marks but google and check. But beware - I never saw anyone manning the booths to sell tickets at the pier while we were there so you may have to buy your tickets both ways before you leave for the pier to drop off your luggage. Surely someone here will know the answer to that. Our cruise ended in Venice and I took the easy way out - I paid the Princess $15 per ticket for unlimited shuttle use over a 24 hour period mostly b/c it was convenient.

Thanks, how complicated/far is it to get to St. Mark's etc/tourist destinations from the cruise terminal in Venice?

Your best way out of Cruise Boat Terminal St.Marks square water Linea M, which connects directly with the Cruise Terminal on Water St.Marks square. Full details here:

We were in Venice in August and like you arrived one day pre-cruise. We wanted to maximize our time in Venice so we left our luggage at our hotel after checking out the next morning. The hotel had a special room for luggage to be left. We spent the entire day sightseeing and came back to the hotel around 4:00 to retrieve our luggage and head to the ship. Our ship was in port for the night and mid day the following day and although we were excited to be on the ship we didn't want to waste valuable time traveling back and forth to drop our luggage off. By the time we arrived there were no lines and we walked onto the ship with no wait. We checked in, had dinner and headed back to the Grand Canal for a moonlight gondola ride.
