justjcruzn Posted October 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Hello Fellow Cruise critics, Has anyone recently returned from the Caribbean? If so, what is the current jewelry item or Gem that they are marketing? Seems each time we sail it is a different Gem Stone and was curious what is in the "marketing" arena. Would love to hear! Thank you J Leaving for Caribbean in a few weeks!
Arzeena Posted October 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2010 Hello Fellow Cruise critics,Has anyone recently returned from the Caribbean? Thank you J Leaving for Caribbean in a few weeks! They are marketing Mark Henry Alexandrite, Crown of Light, Kabana, but most of all they are marketing the Diamonds International stores in all ports of call. Earlier this year it was Tanzanite and Bernard Passman. Do read the other boards about jewelry stores if you intend to purchase.
irwinler Posted October 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2010 We, too, noticed that there seems to be a "gem de jour" each year. When we first cruised in 1994, it was imperial topaz (haven't heard it mentioned since). Then it was Tanzanite; then ammolite, then Mexican fire opals, then Alexanderite. Last year it was blue diamonds. Haven't been there this year. NMI
sjcruiser Posted October 29, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 29, 2010 I'm not into "gems" but I like watching the jewelry/gems shows on the shopping networks. I'm just curious that every six months or so there's a "new find" or hot, must have item in the gem world.
justjcruzn Posted November 3, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted November 3, 2010 Thank you for the responses. When I first started cruising we would buy the gems and have jewelry made for our daughter. You are right usually it is things you have never heard of. Some of the stones have been lovely and made wonderful pieces. The prices are usually good. Some of the shopping "marketing" gets to be a little much on the cruises, but fun to see what they come up with! Happy Cruising to all and again Thank you!!
