ergh :/

just reading all the reviews on the site from the jewel and they seem about 50% positive :(

hope this will turn out alright, and hope theres going to be a youngish crowd.

Also, quick Q, its my birthday on the 15th of jan, which means we will be visiting the port of Wala.

what should I expect from P&O in regards to Bday celebrations? should my GF word them up about it?

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan, Oh be excited!!! you'll have a great time on Pacific Jewel :) we did the New Years Eve cruise just gone on the Jewel, had a wonderful time, plenty to do (or not) and see, plenty of food, music, entertainment, shows, bars, casino, ports are all good something for all ages, don't worry cruising is great for making new friends, I'm sure you'se will love it :D for your birthday they will most likely put a bunch of balloons on your door to your cabin, anyhow may see you on board as my husband and I and some other friends are also doing this cruise too !!! :D Nett

Welcome to CC, Dan. Go with an open mind - don't let what you read put you off. Everyone has different expectations. One person will say one thing and the next will say the opposite. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I haven't been on the Jewel, but have been twice on the Pacific Dawn - a sister ship - and had a marvellous time. Staff, food and entertainment have all be wonderful - but then as long as I'm at sea, I'm happy. :)

Hi Dan and Welcome to CC,

I say ignore the negatives, go in and have fun :D I just got off the Jewel and had the best time of my life, I'm in my early 20s and so is my BF and we loved every single moment on board, I even shed a little tear and tried to run back on the ship when we disembarked in Sydney:p P&O is the perfect cruise line in my opinion for us young first time cruisers, there's plenty to do on board, so you're never bored, and there's always a party happening somewhere on board;) One tip, If you like to drink, there's this bartender Dom who works in the Marquee and at the attic (which is the nightclub), he's normally the one yelling Woop Woop (dont get him confused with the Woop Woop man on Lido deck), but if you find him, or not, ask for a Dom Special in the Attic, it's 5 shots of spirits all mixed into a yummy cocktail, with only a $7.25 price tag :D

As for your birthday, if you want you can organise a Birthday Special before you go on the cruise, for $90 for 2, it should include a photo, a cake, dinner for 2 at La Luna & a bottle of Wine (It's quite good value, seeing that Wine is approx $40 a bottle, La Luna is $40 for 2 people and they normally charge $15 for a cake). If not, I think she can organise for a cake on board at a charge, and it needs to be organised early on in the cruise.

Hope that helps and have a great cruise :)

P.S If you haven't already go read my review from a week back, It's a early 20s perspective of the Jewel and don't forget to read about the club lounge if you are a drinker or jsut want to make your holiday extra special.

Just realised I'm starting to sound like a spokesperson for the club lounge:p If anyone from P&O is reading this and wants to thank me for my advertising, I'm ready to hop on a cruise anytime;)

Welcome Dan, dont be put off by the negatives, I think you will find the percentages to be more in favour of the positives.

Here is a link to a thread I posted with photos of the Pacific jewel that you might find interesting: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1250769&highlight

I`m with Sandi...(arnt i always;)) Dont expect anything but a good time. I think the least you expect and the more of an open mind you travel with, the more of a surprise everything becomes.

In relation to your birthday, i am sure if you have put it on your cruise personliser the very least you could expect is a small cake and to be serenaded by the waiters...its all great fun

Welcome to CC by the way too :)
