tootuff4u2 Posted October 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2010 I understand drinks in Grand Caymen are pricey--is there anywhere you can buy a 12 pack of beer or a bottle of rum, coke and ice and then take a taxi to the beach???
TurtleTagger Posted October 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Any one of the liquor stores in town or along the way to Seven Mile Beach. Still not cheap, but cheaper than buying them at a bar.
bookbabe Posted October 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2010 As a followup to Turtletagger's recommendation, once you buy the drinks at an outside store, you'll probably need to head to the Public Beach section of Seven Mile Beach rather than one of the "beach club" areas like Royal Palms or Tiki Beach. Most of the common spots with beach bars and/or restaurants frown on bringing in outside food or drinks...
TIMETOGOAGAIN Posted October 26, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2010 What is expensive/pricey? For instance a bucket of beers would go for...?
TurtleTagger Posted October 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2010 Not sure of pricing at the popular beach bars, but a bucket of beer special at some off-beach bars is usually around $15 CI/$19 US. A beer at most bars frequented by tourists will run $4-$6 US.
tootuff4u2 Posted November 9, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted November 9, 2010 I hear that you cannot take liquor out of the liquor store that they will just deliver it to your ship. Does anyone know if this is true??
TurtleTagger Posted November 9, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 9, 2010 I hear that you cannot take liquor out of the liquor store that they will just deliver it to your ship. Does anyone know if this is true?? If you buy from a duty free liquor store it will be sent to the ship. If you buy from a regular retail store and pay the high price that includes the duty, you can bring it with you. Locations for some regular retail liquor stores or better yet, just ask your driver: http://s2.caymanislandsyp.com/sys/pageserver.dll?s=-8&go=Liquor-Retail&pa=Cayman-Islands http://www.jacquesscott.com/divisions-wines-spirits.html http://www.bigdaddys.ky/
brendan947 Posted November 9, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2010 When I was in the Cayman Islands in April we had our excursion get canceled so we just grabbed a cab to the beach. We just did research for excursions so we had no idea where the best beaches and restaurants to go were. We just told the cab guy to take us to the beach and he took us to a close beach club (don't remember the name). You could see all the ships from where we were, it was really close to the tenders and we could have walked if we had known it was that close. Drinks were pretty expensive. A bucket of corona (5 beers) was $28 dollars US. A bottle of beer and a small margarita was around $13 for the two of them. A 12 -16 oz draft was $5-$6 depending upon what you got. No idea if this place was so expensive because of how close it was to where the boats tender or not. Suffice it to say, we didn't drink a whole lot or eat much when we were there. Hope this helps. bluegirlum Posted November 10, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 10, 2010 For reference, a 12 pack of Miller Lite cans will cost you about $22 dollars in GC at one of the liquor stores. That and Caybrew, the local beer, are the cheapest. Everything in GC is ridiculously expensive. We spent a week there a few weeks ago and brought a suitcase full of our own booze! :) If you want to go to Seven Mile Beach, have the cab driver take you to the Strand Shopping Mall. There is a tortuga run store (rum cakes!) and in the back corner by the Fosters Grocery Store there is a liquor store. You can get cold beer in there, and then stop in the Fosters for any snacks you want. Then head across the street like you're going to the Ritz, and there is a little public access way to the beach. Just head through there and park yourself. It's really beautiful. If you want to be a little closer to the port, you can be dropped off by the Lone Star and walk a little bit to Big Daddy's liquor store. The guy who works there is really nice. It's in a smaller strip mall with a jewelry store. Then you can again just cross and go back on the beach at the public access next to the Lacovia condos--or pop in the Lone Star, which is fun. Also, try to get your hands on a Cayman Activity Guide (it's called something like that). It has coupons for Big Daddy's and Tortuga, so that will save you a little money. have fun!
