I'll reiterate my recommendations. If you MUST stay downtown, skip Bayside Marketplace and go to Mary Brickell Village:

It's a short cab ride away. There's a Publix grocery store there for any last minute purchases and it's not an arm and a leg like CVS would be.

Try Perricones for an Italian meal. Window shop, listen to live music. So much nicer than nasty old Bayside.

We found a place for breakfast about 2 blocks from the Intercontinental, across from CVS that has good reviews on TripAdvisor - Offerdahl's (former Miami Dolphin I found out!) Cafe Grill and we'll be checking it out in January!

Contrary to other opinions, we like the "touristy" Bayside, easily walkable from Intercontinental. When we were there, a Cuban band was on the stage by the water and we watched several "older" people dancing - it was a great place to people watch. The mall of Bayside is nothing great, but just walking and sitting around the water was a nice start to our cruise vacation and a cab wasn't necessary - very convenient!

Our family ate breakfast at the Latin American Cafe at Bayside. Very reasonable and very good. We ate outside looking over the water. Very nice way to start our cruise. We ate dinner at Bubba Gumps, also at Bayside. Very good food and not too expensive. It was a very easy walk from the IC to Bayside. Well lit and well traveled, and we felt very comfortable. I have been to South Beach and also Mary Brickell Village. I enjoyed Bayside and found it very convenient when staying at the IC.
