Slow Foxtrot Posted October 31, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2010 I am going on this cruise in feb 2011 can you tell me if it is better to take your own pc with dongle or use ships system. I have never used either before any comments will be helpful Take your laptop. Do all your letters/e.mails etc in your cabin, then just pay for the short time needed in the Cyber Room to send them. If you plan to spend a lot of time on the ship's internet for other things you can buy a package of 250 minutes for £75 or thereabouts. Using the ship's satellite connection is not cheap and the internet speed leaves much to be desired. Hence, the advantage of doing most of your work off-line. Rum Rat Posted October 31, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2010 Should have added, buy your package on the first day and you get extra minutes. Also, at some time during your cruise, you may get a deal of 'Use 10 minutes, get an extra 10 minutes free'. Had that on more than one cruise. It certainly applied on the Aurora Transatlantic to the USA and Canada last month :D:D Mike. .
blitznbobs Posted October 31, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2010 Or wait til your in port and see if there is any free wifi to connect to as an alternative! (Yes I am cheeky!) - but in Barbados we found half the staff sat on the aft promanade deck with their laptops! Bx
