Monaco/Monaco

The monaco/monaco cruise leaves late in the evening (11pm). I think I will be staying one night in either Monaco or Nice before the cruise. Which is better? What to do until 11? Will hotels hold luggage after check out?

Don't be fooled, you can board the ship early afternoon.

Highly recommend Hotel La Perouse in Nice. It is right by the flower market and all the great restaurants in old Nice and the port. Stay 2 nights, it gives you a chance to visit Nice and then take a leisurely drive to Monaco on the Moyenne Corniche (visit Eze along the way) before you board the cruise.

I say...stay a the stately old Hermitage Hotel in Monte Carlo. We have been there many times..they keep it gorgeously refurbished..breakfast out on the patio is glorious...the view of the famous harbor not to be missed. Always a few marvelous yachts to spy on..yes we take our samll binoculars. We always request harbor view room. You can book a car to meet your plane thru them...as a car done to the ship as well. It is fun to browse the designer shops as you walk down the street to visit the casino and the Hotel de Paris. Lunch..or as least a drink at the outdoor cafe there is the greatest sight seeing...[people watching]. This is a place that is the last of the "set a part" world...at least in our opinion.

Why not fly Nice to Monaco by helicopter from the airport. Heliair Monaco charges €120 per person which includes onward shuttle to your hotel ( just check the luggage situation).

For another hotel suggestion try the Hotel Metropole just off the casino square. We had a lovely meal in the dining room last time we stayed and it's a 2 minute walk afterwards to the casino square for a coffee, beer or glass of wine at the cafe de Paris where you can watch the world go by.

The hotel also has a delightful swimming pool area together with very pleasing communal areas. I was so tempted to pinch their stone floor for our home ;)

There is a shopping centre under the hotel which had a good Japanese restaurant a few years ago. Try the blackened cod.

Wherever you end up staying have a wonderful time.

We recently completed the Monaco to Monaco trip -- we went in a few days early and stayed in St. Paul.We boarded the ship at about 1PM( officially boarding started at 2PM). We also love Nice but Nice was our last port of call the night before we cruise the short distance to Monaco to disembark so we had plenty of time to have our cake and eat it too!!!

mmm helicopter - I don't think so. When I went to Hawaii I was determined to fly in a helicopter. Never happened. It's an excellent suggestion - for someone else.

Nonsense, the perfect opportunity. A quick 5 or 6 minute flight along the coast :)

The last time I was there was in July when I cycled into Monte Carlo from Villefranche-sur-mere when we called in there on a cruise. The opposite end of the glamour spectrum ;)

Take the helicopter !!! What a fabulous way to travel and the scenery is amazing. Sometimes we take the easy route rather than the adventurous. What a buzz to start your vacation. Mind you my husband is a helicopter pilot so I am a tad biased ;)
