u2cruiser Posted November 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2010 Does the surcharge you pay to dine at these restaurants include the gratuity or are you expected to tip the waiter? You are not 'expected' to tip the staff, but we did and it was very much appreciated. :)
marylizcat Posted November 10, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Thanks for your reply. It would be interesting to hear whether or not others have tipped?
CRUMB Posted November 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2010 We dined in East, White Room and Ramblas on Ventura and did not tip at all. Just our choice because we paid extra. The only other perosn we tipped except our cabin stewards and restaurant waiters was our wedding photographer but you can tip who you want when you want. maritime mick Posted November 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2010 We left a tip the last time we were in Oriana Rhodes. It was the first night of the cruise and for the duration of our meal we were the only couple in the dining room. Needless to say we got superb service and the food was fantastic. Happy cruising - Mick
Merlin7 Posted November 21, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2010 You will find that the waiters in the speciality restaurants work in other areas of the ship, the MDR, the buffet, the bars etc. Therefore one would assume that they receive tips from these areas and that the supplement for the speciality dining includes a percentage for a gratuity. As we tip generously in the above venues, we have only ever tipped in the speciality restaurants for service over and above the norm, which is often the case, as the food and service is exemplary. However, there have been times when we have not tipped and not felt obliged to do so.
