Carnival's Paradise vs RCCL's Monarch

We are looking at booking a short little 4 day cruise (Winter 2005/2006) to take our two boys on (will be ages 5 and 8)-their first cruise. The prices for the Paradise and Monarch are very close. I know RCCL will allow us to get 2 connecting rooms for a few buck more, but don't know how Carnival works that. We have also heard/read that RCCL's kids program is better than Carnival's. Any thoughts? Thanks:)

We were on Monarch with kids (14, 10, 8 at the time) in the spring of 2004. At the time, they had a basketball court (I don't know if they remodeled and put in a rock wall or not). The kids had a good time. We booked early and got adjoining cabins with pullman in one on the lower deck. The kids programs are swell. Don't know if we can compare with Carnival, though. Maybe someone else can help.
