Looks like I got a dreaded "elevator" room...

Recommended Posts

So, I just checked my room assignment, and they've put me in cabin 7253 on the Mariner. Deck 7 promenade room (which is what I wanted), but looking at the floor plans, looks like we're RIGHT BESIDE the elevator. Grr.

I'm not so concerned about the noise from people, because I can ignore that if needs be. What I'm concerned with is will I hear a lot of "machinery" noises? Like, cables turning, etc.? Anyone ever stayed next to an elevator that can answer this?

Should I try to switch? From what I was checking yesterday, looks like this cruise is almost full, so I don't know what my chances of switching will be.

Adrienne,

I have a friend who was in that room on the Explorer. No complaint of noise from the elevator. Only complaint was difficulty seeing the Parades from their window. When they realized it they just went to the Promenade to watch them. By the way, I just checked on an internet site and it seems all the Promenade rooms are taken at this time. After final payment date though there may be some open. Keep checking! Hope this helps!

Thanks guys - we were worried that we'd hear a lot of scraping and bumping from the elevator through the wall or something.

We can ignore people, but not mechanical noises. icon_smile.gif

I have the same room on Voyager leaving 7?16?04 out of Bayonne! I will let you know how it is. I think it should be fine, I want to be able to get where I want without a ton of walking, so close to the elevator is OK by ,e! I did ask about this room in another post, and was assurred that the noise is not an issue, but make sure you close those window curtains/blins! Not only can those across the way look in, but above and the elevator acroos the way! icon_biggrin.gif

I've been in three Promenade cabins on three different Voyager class ships (all near the elevators) and never heard a sound.

If anything being near an elevator is a huge advantage IMHO. Easy access to other parts of the ship.

I'd prefer that over a long haul to reach an elevator...

So cheer up. Atrium cabins are wonderful!

Keep the room! There is actually a hall between your room and the elevator. You will not hear a thing. Great location!

Who ever said these rooms were "dreaded"?? I think it is a fantastic room, and so convenient to be right near the elevators. We had the room next to elevators on Brilliance (and my parents did on Radiance) and neither of us heard any extra noise from either passengers or machinery. Loved the convenience, though! I think it is a great room.

We just got off the Grandeur and were so scared that we'd never get any sleep with a room next to the elevator. We never heard a thing. It was perfectly quiet and agree that it is nice to have it be so close to the elevator.

Thinking back to our first two cruises, (VOS & EOS) we were in #8263 both times (PR). It was right next to a service elevator (used to bring luggage up) and except for maybe one or two clunks the first evening we never heard it again. It actually became like a barrier wall next to the headboard side. EXTREMELY quiet. icon_biggrin.gif

It might have made noise that final night but I'm always so exhausted by then I could sleep through anything (it's called burning the candle at both ends. LOL!)

The one port of call I've never seen on a cruise yet is the entrance to the final home port. Still on my "To Do" list.... icon_wink.gif
