Welcome to cruise critic langolad. As dreamweaver suggests, there are lots of recent posts/reviews about Ventura if you scroll down the page and onto pages 2 & 3 of this forum.

As for being bored, not a chance! :D

I'll give you a couple of brief answers to save you searching. You can but a bottle onboard at regular uk prices or buy ashore and bring onboard inside a bag. If you want 2 or more sunbeds together on a sea day make sure you are up early and out on deck before 9am otherwise you have little chance of a good spot. Most of room service is free, standard hotel meal menu. During the daytime there is plenty going on around the ship, it is all listed in a daily newsletter you will recieve the night before. Evening entertainment is usually repeated a few times through the night so that you can catch a show on whatever dining you are on. Entertainment varies from musicals, comedians, singers, tribute acts etc.

If you don't want to smuggle your spirits on your room steward will deliver a bottle which will be charged to your onboard account as our neighbours had in The Caribbean earllier this year but I don't know the cost. Entertainment is on all over the ship, the main shows in the theatre last about an hour and usually include the ships company as well as guest artists and are on twice to cater for those dining early or late, there's also live music, comedians, and dancing in different venues around the ship then the night club goes on until the early hours.

You can buy duty free on board via your cabin steward. Price list will be in your cabin but a bottle of gin (1 litre) is around £11. Mixer cans are 75p so you are probably better off getting these ashore rather than the alcohol

First thing, don't worry about being bored, more a problem is what are you not going to do. On a 12 day cruise you are probably going to have around 6 days in various ports, so each of those days would usually be ashore. I guess you're actually on the Canaries cruise which is the only 12 night cruise on Ventura in June 2011. If so you only have 1 full day at sea before your fist stop at Vigo, so then a full day in port and then next day at sea, after that you have 5 consecutive days in ports. you will then have 3 sea days comimg home to catch up on sunbathing, we were on Ventura in the summer and always managed to get a sunbed ....... never bothered reserving a bed and usually if we were on deck by 10.30 we got a bed.

On an evening we mixed up our choices of entertainment between the 3 main venues watching shows in Arena Theatre (3 shows a night) to comedians and singers/bands in Havana and Tamarind which usually repeated twice. On top of that you have a resident band in the Exchange pub and live music in Metropolis each evening, mix that up with breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner you won't get chance to be bored.

Regarding drinks in cabin don't bother with bringing on board unless you only drink wine (which is quite expensive compared to duty free)........however if you drink spirits you can order virtually all popular brands of Gin,Vodka,Whisky,Brandy etc for duty free prices to drink in your cabin via your tv (I think there were over 60 choices). We had Bombay Sapphire Gin 1litre @ £12.50 and steward brought us fresh ice and lemon @ 5pm every day !! We did tend to buy the odd bottle of tonic when in port as this worked out much cheaper.

We felt that Ventura was a beautiful ship with plenty to do and great staff who could not do enough for you ..... ignore the negativity of some when you read it as we found none of it to be true and felt the ship was perfect for first time cruisers.
