Has anyone been to this Synagogue and Museum? From Google earth it appears to be about 1.5 miles from the cruise pier. Is it walking distance from the cruise pier or is a taxi recommended due to either distance, hills or safety considerations? Any recommendations for other things to do in Bridgetown especially nice areas to walk through?

1.5 miles is about right. It is walkable from the pier. Follow the path along the right side coming out of the terminal. This will take you along the water and give you some nice scenic views. Downtown Bridgetown is like any other large city in the Caribbean; all sorts of stores and lots of business people. There a loads of taxis which will offer to take you anywhere on the island.

Have fun!!

Best to take a cab into downtown, its a flat rate per person - can't remember the cost but its not much. there is a central drop off point at the start of the shopping district. from that point its about a 10 minute walk through the downtown, then you hang a left and go through a couple of side streets to the synagogue (just ask where to turn). The walk from the pier to the downtown area isn't all that interesting and you would just be wasting time.

The only problem with this scenario is that he wants a few sites besides the synagogue.

I highly recommend seeing the Synagogue on your own. If you like to walk no taxi is needed and once we got to the Synagogue we were give a tour there by the person who works there. Since we arrived early, we had our own tour with no one else there. It was great.

This is exactly what we did when we were there earlier this year.

We just used the map from our cruise ship and it was perfect.

We walked outside the Cruise Ship Terminal and made a left. We then walked across the street so that when we walked into town the ocean and beach was on our right hand side. We could walk on a very nice side walk. We then walked a couple of miles into town and then we crossed back over to the left.

We toured the Synagogue and it was great. And we visited many other sites. We spent a few hours downtown and then came back a similar route.

It was perfect and we had a great day in port on our own.

Here are a couple of pictures from the synagogue.

Keith, unable to get to the pics. Can you post them in a jpeg format?

Thanks.

What else did you do after your tour of the Synagogue. Once again, thanks for any info:)

Let me try posting the links to the pictures again. Hopefully, they will work this time.

After we visited the synagogue we stopped off at the Parliament Building. We also visited the St Michael’s Cathedral where we walked around the inside of the church as well as the cemetery, which is part of the church property. Afterwards, we strolled around the town and walked up and down several streets. When we walked back from the town over to the Cruise Ship Passenger terminal once again we walked on the side of the road with nice views of the beach area and the ocean.

Hi, we were wondering if anyone has some updated information with regard to the Synagogue, Parliament, etc., cost of taxi directly there (walking a slight issue) and can we get one back from there as well. Is there a charge for enter the Synagogue. Can we take pictures inside?

Thanks in advance.:)
