Broncofans Posted December 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2010 Hi All, Flying in 2 days before cruise so we can visit the Wizardrying World Of HP. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for our visit? Tips about visiting the Park? Places to eat night before and night of, possibly on City Walk? We want to enjoy but not wear ourselves ragged before our cruise. Open to any and all tips. Thanks, Jennifer Oh forgot to say: we are 4 adults, no kids. tampasteve1 Posted December 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2010 I like the Latin Quarter at City Walk. With that said there are a TON of restaurants in the area. Islands of Adventure (where HP is at) is a fun park, and this is coming from someone that does not like roller coasters. Universal is a lot of fun too, and you might be able to get a combo pass for a good deal. Steve
FlaGrl4Evr Posted December 1, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2010 Hi Jennifer, Here is an excellent review that covers a pre-cruise stay in Orlando visiting HP at Universal. Good luck and have a great time. :) http://www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1294711 Also, don't forget to bring a jacket or sweat shirt. It can get chilly in Fla in January especially at night. It can get very expensive if you need to buy one at the parks.
DQUIN5340 Posted December 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 3, 2010 I was lucky enough last June to be booked at the Royal Pacific. And we were allowed into Wizarding World for 3 hours before the Grand Opening. It was awesome. I also fell in love with Butterbeer. I have a receipe for it and it is really good. I made it for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. Taste just like the one I had at IOA. Let me know if you would like the receipe and I will post it. DQUIN5340 Posted December 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2010 I would love the recipe Diane.... Thanks so much!!!! Jennifer Butterbeer 1 cup of light or dark brown sugar 2 tablespoons water 6 tablespoons of butter 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cider vingear 3/4 cup heavy cream, divided 1/2 rum extract Four 12 oz. bottles cream soda In a small saucepan over medium, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often, until the mixture reads 240 degrees on a candy thermometer. Stir in butter, salt, vingear, and 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Once the mixture has coolded, stir in rum extract. In a medium bowl combine 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture and the remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Use an electric mixer to beat just thickened, but not completely whipped, about 2 or 3 minutes. To servie, divide the brown sugar mixture between 4 tall glasses ( about 1/4 cup for each glass) Add 1/4 cup of cream soda to each glass, then stir to combine. Fill each glass nearly to the top with additional soda, then spoon the whipped topping over each. Hope you enjoy. Diane
Broncofans Posted December 15, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted December 15, 2010 Diane, Thanks, I feel bad I never did thank you for the recipe. My trip is getting closer and I'm getting really excited. We have the house filled with family and kids and I'm unable to pack as yet. Feels like I want to start doing that. Anyway, again, thanks. jencat Posted January 3, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2011 Over the Thanksgiving holiday, my family spent two days at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and, even though it was crowded, we had a wonderful time. There is a very helpful review (with photos, a list of tips, and a Universal's Islands of Adventure park map) at mydreamcametrue.com/wizardingworld
