ncbeachteacher Posted December 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2010 Had heard on our roll call over the weekend that the Legend had been switching the ports for Cozumel and Roatan (Wednesday and Friday switch) on several recent cruises. Today, I got an email from a non-Carnival excursion provider that I have booked.... here is part of the email: Please note that the Carnival Legend has switched from a Wednesday to Friday arrival in Cozumel for the last 4 weeks in a row. The problem is they have not been advising clients in advance and we have been dealing with many upset clients at the last moment who have had to make last minute adjustments to their travel plans. We kindly ask you to contact Carnival to find out if they will be changing your arrival date. We are happy to revise your confirmation to your new date in port and will email a new confirmation to you promptly as soon as we have confirmation from you. We encourage you to raise your concerns with Carnival directly. It would appear they have been aware of these changes for weeks, but have not had the courtesy to advise their clients in advance. Who do we actually call? Has anyone called and found out about this? Recommendations? I know my Roatan booking is safe because it is a carnival cabana rental. But if I am to miss Nachi Cocum, I would be rather upset!
ABurris0411 Posted December 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2010 I called Carnival this afternoon (we sail on 12/26) and they said that they have no information on port changes until about the Wednesday before the departure date. It is so frustrating to not know what is going on.
firefly333 Posted December 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 6, 2010 Did your TA write that to you .. wow. Im surprised a TA would tall a client to "raise concerns" with Carnival when as you know you cannot discuss your booking with Carnival .. who would you be calling?? I agree. Very odd for any travel agent to tell their pax to do this. OP if Carnival changes dates and you booked something directly, usually they know which ships are in port and will know that you want to change dates. Its not usually a concern... if you hit one port this day or that day. Its possible your stop might not know, .. so you tell them when you do know. ncbeachteacher Posted December 6, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted December 6, 2010 No, the TA did NOT write that.... the non-carnival excursion provider did. Actually, the rest that I did not post, is fairly strong. I am sure it is creating disgruntled customers, etc. So I do understand their frustration. I would like to know as well. truchattycathy Posted December 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2010 Could this be due to all of the weather this fall? Our cruise was rerouted numerous times the end of October. We went to Cozumel on Monday instead of Thursday, and Nachi was ready for us and knew all about the changes. We went to Roatan on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, and the tour operator was ready and waiting for us. We missed Belize all together and the refund for my excursion was on my credit card before I got home. We tried to dock in Costa Maya, but could not, so we went to Cozumel again. Like firefly, I too find it odd that you got this e-mail. Most vendors know the schedules are flexible and I have never heard a complaint from them. I even e-mailed Island Marketing from the ship and they assured me that changes are not uncommon and they could handle them just fine Either way, relax, have a great cruise!!! The captain will get you where you are going, even if it not where you planned.

Legend is switching on days when there are at least 6 ships scheduled in Cozumel.
zqvol Posted December 6, 2010 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2010 The Dec 12th sailing has its ports switched. If you want to get an idea if you might be switched take a look at the load in port. If there are 6 ships on Wednesday and only 3 on Friday you are likely to be switched. While it is a pain if you have private excursions booked it really will make for a better experience as there will be fewer people in port with you. okwriter Posted December 6, 2010 #9 Share Posted December 6, 2010 The Dec 12th sailing has its ports switched. Those are the two ports where we didn't book excursions, so I guess it won't affect us. ;) Still, it would be nice if they'd sent an email. It is still showing the original order in my cruise docs. Max Circus Posted December 7, 2010 #10 Share Posted December 7, 2010 I'm expecting a change. However, we have Carnival-booked excursions so no concerns. I know private ones are cheaper, but here is one reason to go with the cruise line. I don't like stress in the days before or the day of the cruise. I feel bad for those of you who need to wait for a confirmation on the change in order to contact your tour operators.

I was wondering why the switches. I would think that the tour Companies want repeat business and good reviews. Most of these companies rely heavily on cruise ship passengers, and are used to itinerary changes. I book my tours based on Trip Advisor reviews. From what I have read in the reviews...they are flexible to changes made.;)

What a pain trying to contact all the private tour operators. Atleast now in Cozumel, we won't be in port with the Monster of the Seas, lol.:)

AndrewD65 Posted December 9, 2010 #16 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Recieved an e-mail today from Carnival.com it reads Hello Andrew, Thank you for contacting Carnival Cruise Lines. We appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance. I would be more than happy to provide you with this information. The itinerary on the Carnival Legend for the requested date was indeed changed due to logistical reasons. I have provided you with this information regarding the change below. As you can see, the ports of call being visited will be the same. The only changes were the sequences of the ports as well as the times the ship will be staying there. Any shore excursions affected by the change would be adjusted accordingly to match the new schedule. I hope this information helps you. TCG AJG Posted December 9, 2010 #17 Share Posted December 9, 2010 For anyone who has been in one of the cruises that switched how does the change affect the scheduled amount of time in each of these ports? Edit: Thanks, Andrew. Your post answered my question.

cowetamom Posted December 9, 2010 #19 Share Posted December 9, 2010 No but you will be there with seven other ships. Actually, we are leaving the day with 7 ships changing to the day with only four ships. I think our change is for the better.
