Anyone Encountered a Rogue Wave

Yes, I'm sure that was the cruise it happened on! It was a rough cruise with lots of folks not making it to dinner several nights. After the incident during the night, I too remember the ship recovered quickly and people were a little unnerved standing in the hallways afterward. And, yes, I still have the letter from the captain explaining that it was a wave. :p

They had a thing on TV about rogue waves and showed the Norwegian Spirit that had wave damage. They also speculated that rogues may be the 'mystery' surrounding the Bermuda Triangle. Interesting.

HAL's Rotterdam was broadsided by a rogue wave off the coast of Capetown, South Africa (this was several years ago)..Thank God I wasn't on board that year ! Our CD on the Rotterdam told us about it, in frightening detail ! I doubt I'd be gung-ho about sailing if I had been onboard..:p

The Cape of Good Hope is one of the hot spots for rogue waves because of it's underwater shoals.
