rin1 Posted December 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2010 I just confirmed with the airline that there are no bags available at the gate for gate-checked items. I was under the impression that there were. Anyway, I need to buy something and it needs to happen today as we leave tomorrow morning, so I don't have time for the internet. Has anyone had luck with items from a brick and mortar store? Clear contractor bags? Those grayish sacks from Target? If so, what store did you get them at? Looking for words of wisdom here...thanks so much in advance.
cb at sea Posted December 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Bags? You mean for liquids? Folks use zip-loc bags for that...a grocery store will have them. I think they need to be quart-sized. I don't know if that's what you mean....I've never heard of needing a "bag"....
rin1 Posted December 9, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Whoops, sorry...I mean oversized bags for things like strollers and car seats that I'm going to check at the gate. Just minor protection from dirt and germs.
WisconsinFan Posted December 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2010 For the car seat/booster seat we just took the cover off and took that with us on the plane. We never took a big stroller with us, just an umbrella type and never covered it up.
cb at sea Posted December 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2010 I wouldn't worry about "protecting" those things....the way they handle any "checked" item leaves ALOT to be desired. If anything gets dirty, wipe it off when you get it back. Not a big deal! No need to go shopping for something you really don't need.
Kerry's Girls Posted December 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2010 If you want them, I've seen very basic ones at Babies R Us and Toys R Us if you have one near you...though it may be a zoo this time of year. I've gate-checked strollers and car seats more than a dozen times and have never used those bags though. Probably why the airline doesn't have them - they're not absolutely necessary. QLUVS2CRUZ Posted December 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2010 Babies R Us does have them...I haven't used them for a stroller but I have for carseats. I do prefer it over not putting them in a bag, but it's not an absolute for me. Hope you found some...if you want them you should get them. Ula Posted December 10, 2010 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2010 I am trying to understand why the airline is expected to provide bags. They have no idea on how many gate checked items are going to show up. They do not bag anything else. Honestly I see parentes carry a car seat and stroll up the child till boarding. At boarding time, they hand over the car seat unless it is used on the plane for the child, fold the stroller and hand it to the attendant. I do have to say, car seats used on a plane with young kids rule in my book. After two long flights with young kids. The ones who had their car seats did much better. I think it was because it was familiar for them.
kylea_s Posted December 28, 2010 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2010 Travel a lot and never saw a stroller or car seat in any kind of bag. If it does get dirty, wipe it off. I doubt it will as it goes into the baggage hold last and comes out first.
