ModestMeans Posted February 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2005 Have a car reserved for the day in Skagway for trip to Emerald Lake. Including stops for lunch & photos, I'm figuring a 6 hour r/t. This would still leave us several hours before sailing. Are there any other sights we could/should drive to as long as we already have the car? What about continuing on to Whitehorse -- anything worth seeing there? JohnQ Posted February 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2005 You should get a copy of Yukon's (Murray's) mile guide for the trip to Emerald Lake. Shows you what you are seeing, where to stop and where to expect best pictures. From what I understand, the drive beyond Emerald Lake is not as picturesque and you might spend time instead to see rest of Skagway. http://www.explorenorth.com/library/roads/sklondike-photos1.html
Budget Queen Posted February 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2005 I have gone to Whitehorse several times and only for the purchase of the newest Harley shirts for my husband and coworkers. Scenery greatly drops off after Emerald Lake. If you haven't been to Skagway before, definately see some of the city. :) Head to the Park Service Visitor center http://www.nps.gov/klgo/schedule.htm
Pugdog007 Posted February 26, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2005 How far is it to Emerald Lake from Skagway? Is Emerald Lake in Yukon territory? If yes, do you need to carry passports to cross the border?
Yukon Posted February 26, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2005 My guide to the highway is at http://explorenorth.com/library/roads/sklondike-photos1.html - you do need to carry passports to get to Emerald Lake (or anywhere else past Fraser, BC). Murray Murray, we've printed your guide and thank you so very much. We did part of this drive last year, and are so excited about going all the way to Emerald Lake this time. Your guide was just what we needed.
