We're looking at an Alaskan southbound cruise for 2005.

IF you are not taking a pre-cruise land tour, you want to fly into Anchorage. It's closest to Seward (the port) and there is various methods of ground transportation to get you to Seward.

IF you plan to take a Celebrity pre-cruise land tour, you can fly into Anchorage or Fairbanks, depending upon which landtour you take. (Some start in Anchorage; some in Fairbanks.)

We're planning to take a land tour that begins in Anchorage because we'll be using American Airlines frequent flyer miles and American flies into Anchorage but not Fairbanks (we could have flown American into Seattle and then flown Alaska Air to Fairbanks but we chose not to do so.)

So you have several options depending upon your needs.

Have a great cruise!

Joanie

We're flying into Fairbanks...because we wanted the cruisetour that maximizes our trip--#15--and it just happens to start in Fairbanks and gives us the most stops and most variety...Fairbanks (2 nights)-- Denali-- Talkeetna-- Anchorage-- Alyeska-- to the ship...with domed trains from Fairbanks through Talkeetna...

And we're doing the air through Celebrity as well...(I'm betting it will be Alaska Airlines since they're about the only oneswho fly West Coast to Fairbanks...

My advice is if you are doing a cruisetour, might as well go for as much as you can...

Did the Fairbanks to Anchorage and then Seward to the boat. Best way to do it. The land part is very exhausting and then you have the cruise to catch up. Would recommend this way to everyone

We flew to Anchorage spend the night and then boarded the train to Denali, spending two nights, taking in the park, then once again boarding the train down to Talkeetna staying at the Lodge for two nights then retuning to Anchorage for the night boarding the train to Seward in the morning to meet up with the ship. If you have a few extra days this is the way to do it. There is so much to see by taking the train and the dome cars really allow great views. You really don’t want to miss out on being able to see Denali. You might be able to book everything yourself and not rely on CC. Although we went on PC we were able to make our own arrangement. As for luggage we were able to store it at the hotel our first night in Anchorage and only took what we needed for the land portion. This was advantaged as to going into Fairbanks. Will be happy to try and answer any questions.

DAve & Elaine- Fabulous pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Can you please share who the companies were that you used in Talkeetna and for the flightseeing in Ketchikan/Misty Fjords.

Thanks,

Rick,

Glad you enjoyed the pictures. No matter where you stay, if its clear outside, be sure to ask the front desk to wake you if the Northern Lights are visable. In Talkeetna, we stayed at the Talkeetna Lodge. It was the best place we stayed at in Alaska. For the river boat tour we went through:

In Ketchikan we did the flightseeing trip through:
