Waitlist info

Does Holland oversell on sailings that are sold out? Friends of ours are thinking about joining us on a cruise but our cruise is sold out. When they called they were told that there currently is a waitlist. What does this actually mean in terms of probablity of booking? The agent was very vague in giving out info. Anyone have any knowledge of the procedure?

Thanks!

It all depends on how long the waitlist is for your cruise and how many people may have to cancel their cruise at the last minute.

If your friends don't have to worry about traveling too far (plane could be an issue if flying on short notice) they could put their name on the waitlist.

Also keep in mind that those on the waitlist don't get a choice of cabins -- and it is usually the least desirable cabins that will be assigned near the cruise date.

I don't think being on a waitlist relegates one to the "least desirable cabins". It will all depend upon what cabin those who cancel their cruise vacate. Our next cruise was 'sold out' about 6 months prior to our sail date. As we got closer to final payment categories opened up again. People on the waitlist got cabins. Now that final payment is passed there are more cabins available - even deluxe suites. If one considers those "least desirable cabins", oh well.

I don't know when your cruise is in relation to final payment. I'd suggest your friends get on it. If they don't like the cabin/category offered if they clear the waitlist, they can decline.
