Will post this on Italy, France,Spain & Other Boards- hopefully someone has an answer.

Our cruise will visit Spain, France,Italy, Dubrovnik & Kotor. I would usually have VAT processed @ airport (BCN) however with so many ports do I/should I VAT processed @ cruise terminals? I know that certain dept stores have VAT desks within them. Are there VAT refund desks @ the cruise terminals?

Port are BCN

Villefranche

Livorno

Naples

Civitavecchia

Venice

Dubrovnik

Kotor

Thanks

Carole

I've always understood that this is done as you are leaving the EU (as stated here: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/common/travellers/leave_eu/index_en.htm).

Thanks- what was confusing me was so many countries having their own regs. From your link I believe that I can do it all @ BCN as long as I meet the individual countries mim. VAT levels

You're fine with the EU countries (Spain, France & Italy), but I'm not sure how it works with non-EU states (Croatia and Montenegro). There are plenty of people on these boards who have done this and one of them will likely pop in and share their experience.

Again, thanks to you & all CC out there for responses. I probably won't spend that much but like to know what my options are.

Only 5 months to go.. I NEED MY VACATION !!!! ;)

well, apparently my answer was removed....wonder why?

but anyway, glad others answered. the non EU countries hadnle their own refunds and must be done as you leave those countries.

Your post was not removed...you posted to same question under the Spain board...your reply is there.

I didn't even bother with the VAT as the rules concerning it were just so convoluted and I didn't usually spend anywhere near the $50 per purchase, or $200 purchases in France, Italy, Greece or Turkey.

Just knew if the price was something I was willing to pay, that the tax was already included and I just ate it.

Tax refund

Keep receipts for purchase you buy in Croatia and ask for a tax-free form for bills over 500 Kn (apart from petroleum derivatives); you qualify for a tax refund when you get home. Ask for a stamp at the border! If you intend to buy works of art, ask for export approval before you buy.
