windham depot Posted December 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Hi Serenade Cruisers, My DH and I are thinking about booking Serenade of The Seas to the Southern Caribbean in September 2011. We are thinking of booking a balcony Stateroom on Deck 7 a Handicapped Accessible Cabin. I see from the Deck Plan that Deck 6 has the Restaurants, Casino, Schooner Bar etc. I am trying to find out what the noise level on Deck 7 is from Deck 6. We usually book HA staterooms that have Stateroom floors above and below. Any info would be appreciated. Thank You
mutzy Posted December 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2010 we were on serenade in november on deck 10 under the windjammer- the noise was horrible- noise until midnight or later and always woken up between 3-4 in the morning- even during the day your could hear noise- not people noise- cart noise, cleaning noise, chair noise we have sailed on voyager twice and been under the windjammer and never heard noise like we did on serenade i don't know how much noise will carry "up" from the restuarants and bars. i very much enjoyed the serenade- the solarium was a great place to sit and read. kyriecat Posted December 27, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2010 I had cabin 7110 in January when I sailed with my mom. We didn't hear any noises from deck 6. However, we had problems with noise from deck 4 centrum. In the evenings they had a Latino band playing from around 8 PM until 1 AM. The band was LOUD!!! We could hear them clearly in the cabin even with the door closed. The band was so loud that my mom and I couldn't have a normal conversation while playing cards on deck 9. Complaints to the front desk would only quiet them down for a few minutes. I complained about the noise on the comment card when we disembarked. Hopefully RC has a different band or has turned down the volume since that was almost a year ago. I'm used to having a band or quartet/trio playing in the centrum in the evenings, but it's normally soft music. Mu husband and I stayed in a similar cabin location (on the hump) but deck 9 on Brilliance several years ago. We never had a problem with noises from the centrum. My parents stayed on deck 4 of Radiance a few years ago and didn't have that problem with noise. Cabin was roomy enough for two people and my mom was able to get outside to the balcony by herself. We've been on a couple ships where the seal around the door was high and she had problems getting over it. The shower drain worked well so we didn't accidentally flood the cabin this time. I've done that in the past. I had a couple of complaints besides the noise. One is the balcony overlooks the lifeboats so you can't see down the side of the ship. Nothing can be done about that except book a junior suite HC cabin on deck 9. All the cabins on deck 7 except those directly on the hump or at the very front have that problem. The other complaint was the automatic opener on the cabin door. It's a great thing for wheelchair users since my mom could get into the cabin easily. The downside is it occasionally got stuck in the open position. That happened four times during the cruise. We had to wait for maintenance to come and fix it since we couldn't just walk off with the door stuck wide open. Once it got stuck open after the cabin steward cleaned during dinner. The cabin steward didn't make sure that the door had closed so it was left wide open. Fortunately, I stopped by the cabin after dinner to get my mom's camera because a man was in there looking around. He said that he was just curious about the cabin layout and I didn't notice anything missing, but it still upset me that the steward didn't make sure that the door was secured. I admit that if the doors are open, I'll glance into other cabins while walking by, but I wouldn't ever go into someone else's cabin. After that I made sure nothing was left on the cabinets and anything of value was in the safe or hidden.
mutzy Posted December 27, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2010 i would go on serenade again- but i would try for deck 9- the problem we have is we get jr suites and usually they are only on deck 10- i agree the bands playing in the centruim are LOUD but i did enjoy listening to them while waiting for the dining room to open for dinner each night. we found the centrium was a great meeting place when we did seperate activities i have issues with walking and found the serenade was not to big- was able to get around without resting. i would sail on serenade again- it is a great ship we usually cruise voyager and it is bigger and harder for me to walk around.
