Micchi Posted December 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2010 Does anyone have any experience with bringing refrigerated medication on board? Are you able to keep it in your room fridge? Also, is there anyone we should contact prior to sailing? It's not a controlled substance but with the new regulations I thought I might have to notify someone. Rare Clay Clayton Posted December 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2010 My DDP's mom didn't have any trouble bringing on her insulin. She used a special line at the airport to go through security with needles and then told security at checkin and it was no trouble. I think she asked and recieved a "sharps" disposal thing for her room.
luddite Posted December 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2010 It isn't a problem on a ship that has fridges in the rooms. The Spirit does not normally have a fridge in the room. It can be had but you need to let them know.
uppitycats Posted December 27, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2010 Many of the "refrigerators" in cabins are more "coolers" than "refrigerators". If your medication really is temperature sensitive -- you really need to keep it at a specific temperature (and not just "cool"), then you best notify the special needs department at NCL (or any other cruise line) and let them know. They do have some actual refrigerators that they can move into your room, and if not, can best tell you how to manage with your meds.
silkhair1 Posted December 27, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2010 My friend gets a sharps container when she boards the ship. She asks the cabin steward right away and he promptly brings one! Those cabin stewards are amazingingly fast!!!!!

I concur with this - I've had mixed experience with mini-fridges keeping things cold.
Micchi Posted December 27, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted December 27, 2010 Thank you everyone, especially for the advice about the fridge because this medication does need to be a certain temperature :)
