Prices when changing an existing booking?

Recommended Posts

We had booked a cruise while onboard recently. After we got home, we found that we wanted to change the date of sailing (same ship, same itinerary). I went online, found a sailing a couple of month later for about the same price and called to have the reservation changed. However, I was told that the price I see online wasn't the price I could have since I had a pre-existing reservation number. The price I was quoted for the new date was several hundred dollars more per person than what showed up online. The online price was not a Tuesday Sale or marked as any other "deal".

Does anyone know if this is right?

If it is right, is there a way to see online what the price is with an existing reservation? It seemed to be a cumbersome task for the person on the phone to check the price, so I didn't have her check all of the available dates.
