Tours when you get off the ship?

I was in Nassau a few years ago on a cruise with my friend, and when we got off the ship there were several tour guides waiting inside a caged off area that seemend legit and had licenses. We went with one of them and had a pretty good time. He took us all around this island and to atlantis and even snuck us into the dig and private areas of the grounds because his "cousin" worked security there and took a bathroom break when we showed up. I remember the guide's name was Charlie but I don't remember if he was with a certain company or anything, and I really wish I did so we could find him again.

Just wondering if it's still the same now? Will there be locals waiting to give tours, and is it safe to go with them?

Thanks!
