Courtyard Perqs

We are considering a suite for a cruise on the Norwegian Gem. Looking at the family (2 bedrooms) courtyard and penthouse suites. Size and layout seem to be about the same. The only difference seems to be the access to the courtyard area. Are there any additional benefits other than access to the private pool/jacuzzi/exercise area that are part of the courtyard?

Just to expand the Courtyard perks a bit...

1. retractable roof over the pool so if the weather is bad, you still can swim.

2. There is a small menu which you can order from pool side or you can order a meal from Cagney's and have it delivered poolside.

3. Coffee, tea, gummy bears, M & M's, cookies served in the Courtyard.

The only definite extra that I can think of is reserved seating for shows. Sometimes, being a courtyard guest increases the likelihood that you will be invited on a bridge tour and to early entry to the chocolate buffet, but if these are very important to you and you are in a lesser suite, you can ask the concierge. I have also been on a couple of cruises that had an extra cocktail party for courtyard and above guests, but this has been rare.

We returned yesterday from our first Courtyard Villa on the Jewel. 10 days out of New York our first NCL cruise as well and I would do it again in a heartbeat but only if I had a Villa. There was everything listed in previous posts..we had a wonderful cocktail party with the Captain and the Bridge Tour and the early access to the Chocolate Buffet. We never left the courtyard except to go to the Casino and to leave the ship. There was not a small menu, you could order whatever you wanted from anywhere on the ship ( in the evening surcharges for respective restaurants were applied). We had an amazing staff and for us the perks were more than worth the money.

Access to Cagney's for breakfast and lunch (no charge). :D

I thought the only difference between CY and non-CY suites was the use of the CY pool & hot tub area. Is that incorrect? Could you please elaborate? No Cagney's unless you are in a CY accomodation???

We were just in a non-CV Penthouse. All the perks were available except the Courtyard. We did attend a cocktail party in the Courtyard one evening with free drinks. It was nice, but I don't think those suites justify the increased fare. A nice couple at the party gave us a tour of their suite (15000). It was over the top top nice with their own hot tub, but it would have to be a very special occasion.
