dm5201 Posted January 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2011 I read in Frommer's that St. Thomas has cruisers packed in like sardines, with two piers that the ships come in at. Has anyone else experienced crowding? Also, I read that you have to step over people at the beach. However, there are loads of shops. This is our first cruise and what can we do besides shop in St. Thomas and watch out for the pick pockets?
jimf41 Posted January 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2011 If you don't like crowded beaches try Smith Bay, Sapphire or Secret Harbor. I wouldn't worry too much about PickPockets. They are all but non existent in St Thomas/St John. Take the normal precautions you would elsewhere when traveling and you'll be fine. Now if you were going to Italy.... salboz Posted January 17, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2011 Take a tour with one of the guides reccommended on this site. Papa Bear from Air Force One is excellent. Those tours run around $40. per person and can include beach time. They are small groups so usually have flexibility.
