Condado area restaurants

Has anyone stayed recently in Condado that can recommend a reasonably priced restaurant for dinner? We arrive in SJ at 5:30 pm. By the time we get to the hotel, we will be famished. Just something casual after travel would be great!

Last year we eat at Ropa Vieja Grill on Ashford. It is a Cuban restaurant and very good. It is about 3 or 4 blocks west of Marriott LaConcha, nice walk. Also a Subway across the street from LaConcha. On the way to Ropa there were several other restaurants but do not recall the names.

Where in the Condado are you staying? Regardless, there are probably 20 restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Ashford Avenue, the main drag, has plenty to choose from. Additionally, the two Marriotts (one is a Renaissance and the other is the Marriott Stellaris), both on Ashford, also have decent restaurants.

If you are near the Stellaris try Bar Gitano. Its located at 1302 Ashford Ave, the Stellaris is at 1309 I believe.

Bar Gitano is a causal "tapas" restaurant. Lots of little bites, flat bread pizzas, etc. We at there with 4 people and went big and the bill was $100 with wine. We over ate. You could easily eat a nice meal, try some Spanish food and get a decent glass of wine for under $50. Plus its owned by Next Iron Chef finalist Robert Trevino, so if you are a foodie its a cool stop off.

I stayed at the Conrad Condado which has a couple of restaurants right on site. The cafe that is on the same floor as the casino overlooks the ocean and is casual.

However, our favorite local spot which is about a block away from the Conrad was this place. They are right on the ocean and if you can get a window seat, you'll have a great view. This is definitely a local, casual restaurant. We ate breakfast there, but not dinner.

  • 2 weeks later...

We ended up eating at the Cafe Del Angel. There was a guy out front with a handout menu and it sounded good. It was good. We later did pass Bar Gitano, but it was in the opposite direction from our hotel. It looked very nice. We had an enjoyable evening in Condado, complete with a long walk on the beach.
