Staten Island, Newark Airport area or Elizabeth NJ

Wondering which area is easier to get to from the Philadelphia area. We will be driving from the Philadelphia area and are looking at a hotel for a March Cruise. We used Elizabeth last year (Country Inn and Suites) last year and are look for a pre cruise hotel (where we can park the car and take a shuttle/cab to the port)

Thanks again

The choice is really Newark Airport (the hotels in Elizabeth are on the southeast side of the airport) or Staten Island. The hotels with cruise shuttles are Country Inns or Hilton Gardens/Hampton Inn. You've stayed at CI so you know what to expect there. The setting for Hilton Gardens/Hampton Inn is very different - a corporate park on Staten Island that is surrounded by trees. I've stayed at CI (but not taken the shuttle) and it was fine. I've stopped into Hilton Gardens to see the lobby of the hotel and it was fine.

Coming from the south on the NJ turnpike you have the option of getting off at exit 10 and taking Outerbridge Crossing and then route 440 north through Staten Island to get to Hilton Gardens. CI is right off the turnpike at exit 13A.

You can also look at the park/sleep hotels on trinityreservations.com for your cruise date for Newark and the Bayonne cruiseport - folks are staying in the Fairfield Inn, Springhill Suites, and Wyndham Gardens. The web site has a phone number to call to arrange transportation which is very reasonable. The advantage to this is that you can control your own transportation times - this is what I am doing at the Fairfield Inn for my 2/6 cruise - there are others on the roll call that are also staying and we have booked transportation to the port at 10 am. Fairfield Inn and Springhill suites are next door to each other very close to exit 14 - written directions from their web sites are essential for finding these hotels without taking a wrong turn. They are also among the closest hotels to the port. You get breakfast, but there is no general food service in the hotel (like Country Inns).

We are planning on staying at the Hampton for our cruise in May from Brooklyn. We can leave our car there and a breakfast is included. Will get a car service from the hotel to the port at Red Hook.Everyone says how nice the Hilton and Hampton are so we are going by all the good advice given here.
