Eurocruiser2010 Posted January 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Hi Scubagirrl, We've secured a people-to-people escort for our visit to Nassau in early Feb! Our escort has asked what we would like to see. Based on some preliminary research, I think we would like to see the Bahamas Craft Center and the Cloisters. We'd also like to have lunch/early dinner somewhere somewhat authentic, possibly with a great ocean view. Can you please recommend some other things that we might want to do with our guide? I truly appreciate any recommendations you might have. You are truly a wonderful resource of information, and I thank you very much for your help! WeLoveOurVacations Posted February 2, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2011 We will be in Nassau in April and thinking about making arrangements with People to People - please let me know how you liked your experience and what you did on your excursion. We are a family of 5 with teenagers (although not all may tag along) - will this be too many people for a guide to manage?
scubagirrl Posted February 2, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2011 People to people program should not be used as a tour guide or taxi service. It's to give you a glimpse of bahamian life/family and interests. Some include a church service, visit to the family home, some cultural event or exhibit etc. I've heard of some firefighters who have visited the fire houses and talk to the firemen, or those interested in animals visiting the shelters and such. Things that you can't ordinarily reach in the tourist circuit. if you just want to visit the craft center and the cloisters, they i suggest a cab service or a paid tour guide. P-P is to immerse those interested in the bahamian community. You should have a discussion with p-p before they chose a guide as to what your interests are, then again when you know who your guide is, to align your interests with theirs. they are usually chosen based on similar interests. WeLoveOurVacations Posted February 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2011 Thank you for the clarification on P-P, we will plan our trip accordingly if we select that type of experience. We would like a tour but not that interested in a structured organized tour (or can't find one that meets our needs). Could use a cab but potentially miss out on the history/culture explanation. If anyone has suggestions, please pass them along.
LaShelle2 Posted February 4, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2011 This sounds EXACTLY like what I want to do. I want to see how the real local people live and not be stuck at some resort with a frozen drink! What are some things I can ask my ambassador to show me? Are there local markets where locals shop, Not the tourist trap markets with 3 for $10 tee shirts.
JHU Posted February 4, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Heard that Majestic Tours is not good. Looking for an inclusive tour of the island, ending up at Atlantis for two hours or so. Any suggestions?
